See what you get: a real lesson and a template

This is a full lesson from the Module 1 - Get registered and eligible, shown here in public so you can judge the training before you pay. Nothing below is locked — it is the same text members receive.

From Registering in SAM.gov and getting your UEI · Module 1 - Get registered and eligible · about 12 minutes to read.

SAM.gov is the U.S. government's System for Award Management. Every entity that wants to do business with the federal government - and every entity that wants to be paid - registers there. Registration is free.

What you get, and why it matters

Do it in this order

  1. Create a Login.gov account.

SAM.gov uses Login.gov for identity. Use an email address you will keep and can recover - it becomes your government point of contact.

  2. Register your entity.

Have your legal name, physical address, bank account details for electronic funds transfer (EFT), and points of contact ready. The record is validated against IRS and other data, so use your legal business name and Taxpayer Identification Number exactly as filed.

  3. Record your UEI and CAGE code.

Validation returns your UEI. A Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code is assigned when you need one for contracting, and is a prerequisite for defense and many other awards.

  4. Renew every year.

Entity registrations expire annually. An expired registration means you cannot be awarded and cannot be paid. Put the expiration date on your calendar 60 days ahead.

Register only through SAM.gov. You never have to pay a third party to register or to get a UEI; you are paying for something the government provides at no cost.
